Heights of vigilantism: Now, govt suggests Aadhaar-like identification to cattle

Synopsis

Govt suggests Supreme Court of having Aadhaar-like number to cattle If implemented, each cattle’s data will be available online This is being done to prevent smuggling of cattle across border

The Centre's suggestion also comes at a time when cow vigilantism has raised quite a stir in the country.

"Each cow and its progeny across India should get a unique identification number for tracking," the government has submitted to the court. It is learnt that the move aims at addressing issue of cow protection and smuggling of cattle across the India Bangaldesh border.

The Animal husbandry department has formed a group of technicians to affix a tag with 12-digit unique number inside cows ears, reports The Times of India. At least one lakh technicians are on a mission to identify and affix the cattle with the number.

The unique number will be fed into the online database. The cattle owner will have animal health card which will have all the details of the cattle from its unique number to health and vaccination. This will help track the cattle, reports Times of India.
