Election Commission ready to declare all polling booths in West Bengal as sensitive

The Election Commission is determined to conduct the 2021 assembly polls impartially. The Election Commission is ready to declare all booths in the state ‘sensitive’ if the law and order situation so warrant.  

The Election Commission started preparations for the 2021 assembly polls. The Election Commission has come to the fore in full force before the Bengal assembly elections. The country's election commission wants the 2021 elections to be held peacefully. 

Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain and his full team have already set foot in the city to hold meetings regarding the upcoming assembly polls. In the next two days, he is going to hold meetings with various government officials and IPS officers in the state.

Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain said in a meeting with the district magistrate and superintendent of police on Thursday (December 17) that all the election booths in the state will be declared sensitive.

A senior EC official said, “The Commissioner has asked all the DMs and SPs to send daily reports to the EC and identify the trouble mongers from now onwards. The Commission is keeping a close watch on the law and order situation and will take all possible steps so that voters can vote without any problem.”

According to the State Election Commission, Sudip Jain will also review the police reports of various districts and the reports of election officials. Sudip Jain will hold a meeting with the district magistrates and police officials of Presidency Range, Burdwan, and Medinipur on Friday (December 18). 

According to sources, Sudip Jain will also hold a meeting with the Health Secretary and the Home Secretary. The Deputy Chief Election Commissioner will inquire into the booths that were disturbed in the last election. Work has also started to revise the voter list in the state. There will also be discussions on whether the number of booths can be increased by maintaining the COVID-19 protocol.
