A State Department spokesperson told PTI that “we are aware of the explosion near Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance.”

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the car, in which the blast took place, had some occupants.

According to a senior police officer, "The blast occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car in which three people were sitting. We have not found any pellet or puncture in the body of the injured, which is unusual in a bomb blast. We are investigating all angles."

Police sources said the car was registered in the name of one Nadeem Khan and bore a Haryana number plate.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort in Delhi around 7 pm, killing eight people and damaging 3–4 vehicles. Injured individuals are being treated in hospitals. Shah said a thorough investigation is underway with Delhi Police, NIA, SPG, Crime Branch, and FSL teams on site, keeping all angles open, and that he briefed Prime Minister Modi and will visit the site personally.

According to an NDTV report, a bullet was found near the Red Fort blast site.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday expressed shock and grief over the blast that occurred near Red Fort in Delhi that claimed at least eight lives and injured several people.

Taking to social media platform 'X', he wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

"Deeply shocked and disturbed by the tragic blast near Red Fort, Delhi. The loss of innocent lives is heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured," Shivakumar said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweets, "The car blast incident in Delhi is extremely painful and disturbing. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured."

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in a blast near the Red Fort in Delhi that claimed eight lived and left several injured.

"Deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic car blast in Delhi that has taken eight precious lives and injured so many others," Mufti said in a post on X.

"My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones , no words can ease their pain. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured and hoping the cause of this tragedy is uncovered soon," she added.

“Following the blast near Red Fort Metro station, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has issued a high alert across the country — including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, government buildings and other key installations under its security cover,” said the CISF.

Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay told PTI, "Every police unit has been asked to be vigilant and increase patrolling in their respective regions." 

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot added, "There is no need to panic. I appeal to people to inform police if they spot any suspicious person in their area. Our police teams are on the ground at present. They have started checking vehicles on roads, especially those entering or leaving the airport. We are taking all possible precautionary steps." 

Security has been beefed up at vital installations, including railway stations, and police teams have intensified foot patrolling across major cities and districts.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed senior officials to stay alert and be active in the field; vigilance increased following the car explosion near Red Fort in Delhi, with special monitoring ordered at important locations.

CM Office Uttarakhand posts, "The Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami has described the explosion incident that occurred in Delhi as extremely tragic. He has also expressed deep condolences for those killed and injured in it. He stated that this incident is extremely tragic and concerning. In view of this incident, the Chief Minister has directed Uttarakhand's DGP to keep the police on high alert, exercise complete vigilance, and maintain special surveillance on the state's borders. He said that security arrangements should be strengthened in sensitive and crowded areas, and a sharp eye should be kept on every suspicious activity. The Chief Minister has made it clear that the safety of the public is the state government's topmost priority, and negligence will absolutely not be tolerated under any circumstances."

Bihar is on high alert following the Delhi blast. Teams are on alert in Bihar, and everyone is being checked.

Security has been tightened across Chandigarh after a blast in Delhi. Police are on high alert.

Kerala Police Chief Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar has directed the police to strengthen security across the state.

An alert has also been issued in Haryana. The government has issued instructions to all district magistrates.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after receiving information about the incident from Director General of Police Rajiv Krishna, has given instructions to keep the entire police force in Uttar Pradesh on high alert and ensure intensive checking and security arrangements.

Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagenthran on Monday strongly condemned the blast near the Red Fort in Delhi and expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the heinous act of terror will be brought to justice swiftly.

Nagenthran said he was deeply shocked and saddened by the explosion near Lal Qila Metro Station in New Delhi near the Red Fort.

"Initial reports mention that eight people have lost their lives. This act of senseless violence, targeting innocent civilians, that too near such a historic monument, is strongly condemned," he said in a post on 'X.'

Further, he said: "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the kin and kith of those who have lost their lives, and my prayers are with all the injured for their speedy recovery. I am confident that the perpetrators of this heinous act of terror will be brought to justice swiftly."

Following the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, Rajasthan Police have issued a statewide alert to maintain heightened vigilance. DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma directed maximum police deployment at railway stations, bus terminals, shopping malls, religious sites, and other high-footfall areas.

Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) have been instructed to remain on high alert, while all Superintendents of Police and Deputy Commissioners are personally supervising security arrangements to ensure all precautionary measures are in place. CCTV monitoring at command centres has been intensified to quickly detect suspicious activity.

Social media teams have also been ordered to track and immediately counter any false or misleading information. All Range IGPs and police commissioners have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these directives.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and fear. One shopkeeper said, “I never heard such a loud explosion ever in my life. I fell three times due to the explosion. It felt as if we were all going to die…”

The Congress on Monday termed as "deeply distressing" the incident of car explosion near the Red Fort here and demanded a thorough and speedy investigation into it.

"The news of a car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station is deeply distressing. Early reports indicate that several lives have been lost.

"In this hour of grief, we stand with the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government must ensure a thorough and speedy investigation into the incident," Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said in a post on X.

The Chandni Chowk market will be closed on Tuesday following a powerful blast near the Red Fort that killed at least eight people and injured 24 others, the market association said.

"The shops in Chandni Chowk will be closed on Tuesday as there is fear among traders after the blast," said Sanjay Bhargaw, president of the Chandni Chowk Traders Association.

Bhargaw, whose shop is a few hundred metres from the blast site, said the explosion was so strong that their entire building shook. "There was chaos in the market as people started running," he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed deep shock over the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, which left at least eight people dead and several injured.

"Deeply shocked to hear about the tragic blast in New Delhi. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones and I pray for strength and a swift recovery for all those injured," Banerjee said in a post on X.
