Even though May is over, the June heat is still intense across Tamil Nadu. But, there's some relief with heavy rain and thunderstorms hitting in the evenings or at night. Today, the weather office has warned of heavy rain with thunder and lightning for Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, and the Nilgiris.

The weather office also predicts heavy rain with strong winds (40-50 kmph) for the hilly areas of Tirunelveli and Coimbatore, and for the Nilgiris and Kanyakumari districts.

Heavy rain warning for Tirunelveli tomorrow
Tomorrow, a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal can expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorms. The Met department has also predicted heavy rain with strong winds (40-50 kmph) for the hilly areas of Tirunelveli district, and for Theni and Kanyakumari districts.

The weather department has also issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, and in Nilgiris, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, and Salem districts.

Discomfort due to temperature
From tomorrow until June 13, the maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal could be up to 2°C above normal in some places. The combination of high temperature and humidity might cause heat-related discomfort, especially in parts of North Tamil Nadu.

Chennai Weather Update
Today, Chennai and its suburbs will have partly cloudy skies. There's a chance of light rain with thunderstorms in some areas during the evening and night. The maximum temperature will be around 39-40°C, and the minimum around 30-31°C, so expect some heat discomfort. Tomorrow's forecast is similar, with temperatures between 38-39°C and 30°C.
