Kolkata Weather Update: Good news for Bengal, the monsoon is arriving! The last few days of rain brought some relief, but the humidity is still a problem. If the monsoon sets in properly, the heat might finally reduce
The Alipore Weather Department says the monsoon could enter the state very soon if conditions are favourable. The weather office reports that the monsoon's arrival in the next few days could bring down the uncomfortable heat and humidity.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon entered Kerala on June 4. Thanks to the south-west monsoon winds, it has been raining there for the last few days. The monsoon has now advanced up to Solapur in Maharashtra, Kalaburagi in Karnataka, and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

What is the weather office saying?
The weather office says conditions are perfect for the monsoon to advance further into the south-west, west-central, and north-west Bay of Bengal. This means the south-west monsoon could enter parts of West Bengal within the next two to three days.
The monsoon is also likely to enter the neighbouring states of Sikkim and Odisha, along with the north-eastern states, in the next few days. The weather department has not yet specified which parts of West Bengal will see the monsoon's first entry.

When will the rains start in North and South Bengal?
Usually, the monsoon enters North Bengal first and then moves to the districts of South Bengal. For the past few days, many districts in South Bengal, including Kolkata, have been getting thunderstorms. The Alipore office has forecast that from Tuesday to Thursday, several districts in South Bengal may see storms with wind speeds of 50 km/h. The northern districts are also likely to get rain.
