This system is pulling in huge amounts of moisture from the Bay of Bengal, which is forming thunderclouds and causing these storms. Its effect is expected to weaken today, leading to better weather.

South Bengal's Weather Update
The weather office says scattered thunderstorms are likely across South Bengal today. Six districts—Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia, East Medinipur, and North and South 24 Parganas—can expect storms with winds gusting at 30 to 40 km/h.
The intensity of storms in South Bengal will reduce by Friday. Only East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, and South 24 Parganas might see some scattered showers. From Saturday to Monday, expect dry weather and a temperature rise of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. A slight chance of local storms could return to a few western districts on Monday and Tuesday.
