Weather set to change across districts

From Sunday, South Bengal's weather will change. The forecast predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms for Kolkata and other districts. People can also expect gusty winds of 40-50 km/h. This spell of rain is likely to last until Friday.

Heatwave conditions in some districts

Even with the rain forecast, some districts won't get a full break from the heat. Places like Purulia, Jhargram, West Medinipur, Birbhum, and Bankura will continue to experience heatwave conditions until Friday.

Light to moderate rain in almost all districts

Almost all districts in the state can expect light to moderate rain starting today. This should bring the temperature down a bit. However, the Alipore Met office warns that high humidity will still cause discomfort.

A cyclonic circulation is present

North Bengal is expected to receive more rain than the southern part of the state. A cyclonic circulation is currently active over Northeast Bangladesh. This system is affecting Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha, creating a low-pressure trough that is bringing this change in weather.

Heavy rain in the hilly districts

The hilly districts of North Bengal will continue to see heavy rain and strong winds. The forecast says all districts in the north will experience rain or thunderstorms, with winds reaching 40-50 km/h, until Friday.

Temperature rise in districts

For the next two days, there won't be much change in the day temperatures across Gangetic West Bengal. After that, the temperature is expected to fall gradually by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the following five days.

Rain in South Bengal

From Sunday, the intensity of rain will increase in South Bengal. Districts like Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North 24 Parganas could see heavy showers and even 'Kalbaishakhi' (Nor'wester) storms.

North Bengal's temperature

In North Bengal, day temperatures will remain stable for the next two days. Following this period, the temperature is predicted to drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next five days, bringing some relief.
