Kolkata Weather: Rain to Continue, Humidity to Stay High

Intermittent rainfall has brought relief from the recent spell of intense heat in Kolkata over the past few days. On Monday, showers were reported in several parts of South and Central Kolkata, and similar weather is expected to continue.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will experience generally cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in isolated areas. Gusty winds may also accompany the showers.

Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged, with the maximum around 34°C and the minimum near 26°C. Despite the rain, high humidity levels are likely to keep conditions uncomfortable.

During the last 24 hours, Kolkata recorded 27.7 mm of rainfall. On Monday, the maximum temperature settled at 34.8°C, which was 1.9°C above normal, while the minimum temperature was 29°C, around 2.2°C above the seasonal average.

South Bengal on Alert for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

The IMD has forecast widespread light to moderate rainfall across all districts of South Bengal over the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms are also likely in several areas.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Birbhum, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman and Nadia districts, where isolated locations could witness gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along with lightning and moderate rainfall.

Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense weather activity.

Heavy Rainfall to Ease in North Bengal, But Orange Alert Remains

After several days of relentless rain, North Bengal is expected to see an improvement in weather conditions, with the earlier Red Alert now withdrawn.

However, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is still likely across all districts. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar remain under an Orange Alert as isolated places in these districts could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 20 cm over the next 24 hours.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay updated with weather advisories, particularly in regions prone to landslides and waterlogging.
