The incident took place at Chanakya School in the Nikol area of Ahmedabad during a physical training (PT) session. The student, who studies in the Gujarati-medium section of Class 10, was reportedly sitting with friends on the school grounds when the incident occurred.

Teacher Allegedly Slapped Student

According to school authorities, an English-medium teacher identified as Laxman approached the group of students during the PT period. Although he was not the boy's class teacher, he allegedly slapped the student across the face, reported India Today.

The impact was severe. The student's left ear reportedly became swollen and started bleeding. He also complained that he could no longer hear properly.

The school informed the boy's father, who immediately reached the campus.

Doctors Warn Surgery May Be Needed

The student's father took him to a hospital, where doctors reportedly found that the eardrum in his left ear had ruptured.

According to the family, doctors have advised that surgery may be required if the swelling does not reduce within the next week. The father said he is deeply concerned about the possibility of permanent hearing damage.

He also stated that if his son develops lasting hearing problems or needs surgery, both the teacher and the school trust should be held responsible.

Teacher Suspended, Police Begin Inquiry

School officials said the teacher admitted his mistake before the school trust and the student's family. However, the boy's father said the seriousness of the injury left him with no option but to take legal action.

Following the complaint, Krishnanagar Police registered a non-cognisable (NC) case and detained the teacher for questioning. Police said an inquiry is underway to establish all the facts surrounding the incident.

Education Department Orders Action

Ahmedabad District Education Officer Rohit Chaudhary reportedly said an inquiry was ordered immediately after officials received information about the case.

Based on the initial findings, the teacher has been suspended with immediate effect while the investigation continues. The school has also confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken pending the outcome of the official inquiry.

The incident raised concerns on social media about the use of physical punishment in schools and the need to ensure a safe environment for students.
