Yes Sasikala was given 5 rooms in the jail accept prison officials

In a major turn of events, the officials of Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, have acknowledged the loopholes in the prisons including the special treatment for jailed-AIADMK leader Sasikala Nagarajan - that the former DIG (prisons) D Roopa had exposed - before a committee on Friday.

The officials have submitted before the committee that Sasikala was given five rooms violating the prisons rules. Prisons new ADGP NS Megharik and DIG Revanna have reportedly agreed to most of the loopholes that DIG Roopa had exposed in the prisons, reports Kannada Prabha. It may be recalled here that former DG (prisons) Satyanarayana Rao had denied that Sasikala was given a special treatment in the jail.

The officials made these submission before a Legislative Council's public auditing committee headed by BJP MLA R Ashok. In view of the issues raised by DIG Roopa that had also found mention in the last year's Comptroller and Auditor General's report, the committee had sought answers from the officials, reports Kannada Prabha.

It may be recalled here that former DIG (prisons) Roopa had made serious allegations that some of the inmates at the central prisons were being given special treatment. She had also alleged that the officials had taken bribe to ensure Sasikala was given 'royal' treatment at the jail. Videos of Sasikala having a separate barrack for herself with shelves and extra rooms had gone viral. Not just that, Sasikala also had furniture in her cell and allegedly had the most visitors than any other inmate. Even stamp paper kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi too was given special treatment. Roopa had mentioned in her report about the rampant use of drugs and cell phones. She had pointed out that CCTV monitoring room was not functioning properly as some of the CCTV recordings of her visit had gone missing.

After DIG Roopa's report, the government went into a damage control mode by shunting out Roopa and Director General Satyanarayana Rao, on whom she had made bribery charges, was also transferred. Couple of other officials too had shifted in an attempt to clean up the prisons.

Contrary to DG Satyanrayana Rao who had vehemently denied special treatment to Sasikala - after Roopa's report - the new prison officials have accepted the irregualrities. Now that that officials have accepted the irregularities in the prisons it remains to be seen what action will government take on guilty officials.
