On Friday night, miscreants threw crude bombs at the group while they were returning from a wedding. The injured were rushed to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The BJP alleged that the Trinamool-backed miscreants have hurled crude bombs at the BJP workers. However, the TMC has denied all the allegations.

Local TMC leaders claimed that BJP leaders and activists were planting bombs to create an atmosphere of terror in the area before the polls. It is alleged that Varun Pramanik, who had just joined the BJP, was making the bombs at the house of BJP activist Balaram Mandal. Trinamool leaders have claimed that the ruling party was not involved in the incident.

Gosaba police went to the spot after receiving the news of the blast. SDPO Govinda Sikder of Canning also went to the spot. A bomb blast was reported, he said.

Although the local police initially speculated that the bomb had exploded while being planted, the incident is being investigated.
