Bengaluru: A Dalit activist Parashivamurthy fell into an open manhole near Hotel Kanishka at Gandhinagar. The incident took place on April 29 at around 8:30pm.
The open manhole is 10 feet in depth. The manhole had been kept open for repair works. As the Dalit activist fell into the manhole, he screamed for help for 10 long minutes. Passers-by who took note of his plight arranged for a ladder, using which he climbed back to safety.
He was later admitted to Apollo Hospital in Sheshadripuram. Parashivamurthy was severely injured in the incident. His thigh bone was broken and he was operated upon.
Incidentally, the contractor who is responsible for the repair work, initially paid up a sum of Rs 1 lakh for his treatment and till date, has never returned.
Since the bills have gone beyond Rs 1 lakh, he and his son don’t know what to do. The son seeks accountability for the melee.
