Bengaluru: Plastic bucket, used milk packets, twigs, leaves and all sorts of garbage is what one will find in Ulsoor lake as its sedimentation tank has become a waste collection pit. Whenever it rains, the over 10-acre area of sedimentation tank overflows into the main lake and pollutes the lake.

Due to this menace, the fishermen dependent of fishing in the lake fear mass fish kill or damage to their fishing nets.

The Bengaluru Fish Production and Marketing Cooperative Society which has taken the contract to carry out fishing here says earlier it had to bear a loss of over Rs 1 lakh, to clean the tank and buy new fishing nets. Now, the society feels that Jogupalya corporator Gautham Kumar being elected as BBMP Mayor, may turn the situation for good and that he can fix the problem of desilting the sedimentation tank either with his mayor grant or directives to concerned officials.
