Telangana's Ramappa Temple receives heritage site tag from UNESCO
Also known as the Rudreshwara Temple, the heritage site exhibits the artistic and engineering talents in expressive art forms of the Kakatiya period.
The Great Living Rudreshwara Temple in Telangana has been inscribed as a world heritage site by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Popularly known as Ramappa Temple, the heritage site exhibits the artistic and engineering talents in expressive art forms of the Kakatiya period.
The temple, which is located in Palampet, which is 200km northeast of Hyderabad, has been constructed using sandstone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the UNESCO decision on social media.
Congratulating the people of Telangana, the Prime Minister said that the iconic Rudreshwara Temple showcases the outstanding craftsmanship of the great Kakatiya dynasty (1123-1323 CE).
He also urged people to visit the temple and get a first-hand experience of its grandness.

The UNESCO noted that the construction techniques used 800 years ago have ensured that the Rudreshwara temple is well protected from natural disasters.
The construction techniques were way ahead of their time and included the use of lightweight porous floating bricks and other traditional methods. The beams and pillars are carved out of granite and dolerite.
