The Prime Minister lauded the healthcare workers for their relentless hard work but said this is not the time to relax.
Despite India’s record of 1 billion vaccination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that a new crisis can come if we become lax during the Covid-19 vaccination review meet with district magistrates (DMs) of over 40 districts and Chief Ministers of these states having low Covid-19 vaccination coverage.
According to the Prime Minister's Office statement the 40 districts are spread across Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Meghalaya, among other states, having less than 50 per cent coverage of the first dose and low coverage of the second dose of vaccine.
The Prime Minister lauded the healthcare workers for their relentless hard work but said this is not the time to relax. Progress made so far is due to your hard work. Every member of administration, ASHA workers worked a lot, walked for miles and took vaccination to remote locations. But if we become lax after 1 billion, a new crisis can come, PM Modi said at the review meet.
They say one must never underestimate disease and enemies. They have to be fought against till the very end. So, I would want that we should not bring even a slight laxity, he further added.
Addressing the DMs and CMs, PM Modi said that it is necessary to go to every house with spirit of 'har ghar teeka, ghar ghar teeka'. Doors of all those houses will be knocked where people still don't have protection of double dose. So far, you arranged for people to come to vaccination centres and have safe vaccination. We'll now have to go to every house with the spirit of 'har ghar teeka, ghar ghar teeka', Modi said.
He also said that the nation faced several challenges during this biggest pandemic in 100 years. A significant thing in nation's fight against Corona was that we found out new solutions, used innovative methods. You too will have to work more on innovative methods to increase vaccination in your areas, he told the district magistrates of over 40 districts.
Asking the DMs to form different strategy each town and a village, PM Modi also suggested that a team of 20-25 people should be constituted in their areas to execute the door-to-door vaccination policy.
