Recently, the Bengaluru traffic police officials advised the buyers of second-hand cars to do a history check on such cars traffic violations before making the purchase to avoid future inconvenience. The department on its website has uploaded a list of 500 cars having multiple cases of traffic rule violations.

According to the officials, a lot of the new buyers only get to know about the previous cases after they are stopped by the traffic police. 

 

If you are planning to buy a second-hand or used car there here are the few things that you must check before making a purchase decision:

 

1. Research before purchase: 

 

Do some research before going to an old car dealer or making an offer to some individual seller. Though it is a second-hand car but surely, you are paying for it and expect it use the vehicle, so do some research on what cars are available with the dealer or take the manufacturing details of the car from the individual seller and do some research on the model, year of manufacturing, parts of this model is available or not, etc etc.

 

2. Vehicle history report: 

 

Take the car registration number and do a history check with the state transport department and insurance company to see how the car has been maintained and treated by the previous owners. This will help you understand vehicle's condition and avoid any future inconvenience of any sort. 

 

3. Inspect the car in person: 

 

Do not trust on fancy ads or car photos sent by previous owners or social media post to make a decision or make an offer to buy a used car. It is always advisable to check the vehicle in person and see it's actual condition before going ahead with the purchase. 

 

From the body of the car to the status of the engine and tyres inspect everything in person and then take a decision. 

 

4. Ask for service record: 

 

To know how well the car has been maintained and how much maintenance it need ask for servicing record from the owner. Such record can reveal any significant repair work on the engine or serious accidental damage to the car that is important to know before making a sound decision.

 

5. Get professional assessment done: 

 

If possible get a trusted car mechanic to check the used car you are planning to buy. This might cost you a bit and seem unnecessary at the time of buying, but going ahead, this can save to from the purchase of a car that needs major engine or repair work.
