Apple Inc has been challenged in a court of law by a few customers in connection with the news that was doing rounds across the social media platforms of iPhone 6 touchscreens being defective.
Apparently inspired by the various social media posts which complained about Apple's faulty touchscreens in the iPhone 6, a group of consumers has now sued Apple over the issue.
The issue, which is a known technical fault in the phones, reached a boiling point earlier this month when Apple, in an official statement, stated that defects in already sold units of the iPhone 6 would not be resolved or fixed by Apple.
The announcement triggered anger around the globe, with users pouring venom on Apple online, especially on Twitter.
Three customers from Silicon Valley have sued the company in a local court. In their filing, they have not only demanded that Apple be ordered to acknowledge the defect, but also repair defective units and pay cash damages. They have also asked that Apple reimburse their legal fees.
According to an AFP report, the civil court’s statement said: "This action arises from Apple’s concealment of a material design defect that causes the touchscreens on the iPhones to become unresponsive and fail for their essential purpose as smartphones."
Reportedly, the chips responsible for the touch function of the phone were not installed correctly, which caused a dysfunctional touchscreen.
However, Apple has denied that it knowingly allowed the fault to occur.
