Highlights

Being the world's most popular social media platform and one of the biggest sources of information online, Facebook recently committed a gaffe of the highest order.

On June 12, the website, in its independence day wish to Philippines, inadvertently published the country's flag upside down, indicating that it was at war.

This, obviously, led to massive trolling and mocking.

The social media major later apologised for getting the flag wrong.

😱 oh my the Philippine flag, Red color over blue. We're at war so declared by @facebook #IndependenceDay

Hello @facebook admin. Can you please correct the Philippine flag in your greeting? Red on top means war. #flagfail #doyourresearchplease

Dear @facebook please change the Philippine flag you posted. Red on top means the country is at war. Blue should be on top! Apologize too.

But, this wasn't all

In the aftermath of the recent Orlando nightclub terror attack, Facebook deleted a post that contained important information on security and medical emergencies such as the "urgent requirement of blood".

Facebook was also accused of deleting the posts of an American Author, Pamela Geller, according to a Mail Online report,

"Stop the Islamization of America" read the deleted post with an accompanying message that said Facebook wants "people to remain ignorant of jihadism".

"The group “Stop islamization of America” has been removed because it violated our Terms of Use. Among other things, groups that are hateful, threatening, or obscene are not allowed," the FB message continued.

However, Geller continued continued tweeting about the incident and criticized the attacks.

Seriously? Millions of your people were slaughtered in the jihad genocide of Armenians. And you ignore that? #nuts https://t.co/wwl0L7lGPx
