Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat's remarks have sparked off massive outrage on social media.

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat sparked off a controversy with his interpretation of Indian 'sanskar' (culture) vis a vis ripped jeans.

Addressing a workshop on substance abuse on Tuesday, Rawat took umbrage at women who wear ripped jeans. He went to the extent to say that wearing ripped jeans could trigger society's breakdown.

The chief minister said that at a time when the Western world was following India by practising Yoga and covering up their body, Indians were running towards nudity.

Rawat claimed that women who wear ripped jeans cannot provide the right environment for children at home.

His remarks sparked off massive outrage on social media:

So Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has a problem with women wearing ripped jeans, he says they are setting 'bad example' in society.

PS: someone remind him of old days at Shakha wearing shorts.

This mentality of BJP men making vile comments about women is sick. pic.twitter.com/92S9fpr21V

The CM should stop looking at girls knees if it unsettles him this much.

It's not but ripped mentality that needs to be changed.
Despite praising a woman for running an NGO besides being a mom, a wife nd many more. U'khand CM is focusing on her boots, jeans nd also accusing her of destroying society. pic.twitter.com/uPHKK8KpJT
