Dileep was under the cloud of suspicion ever since the news of abduction and attack on actress came out. However, there wasn't any solid evidence to prove his involvement.
The investigation in the case was going at a slow pace after the arrest of Pulsar Suni, the prime accused. Though there were reports that Suni passed on some crucial information, he did not reveal any names. However, he said that there are some 'big sharks' involved in the case.
It was after this revelation that Dileep approached DGP Lokanath Behera and filed a complaint that director Nadirshah and actors manager Appunni were blackmailed over phone seeking ₹1.5 crore. It was the first mistake he committed. Here are the mistakes that led Dileep to arrest.
Blackmail complaint
Dileep complained that a person called Vishnu called Nadirshah and the actor's manager demanding ₹1.5 crore. He also said that current investigation was going on the basis of his complaint. However, police denied his argument and said the investigation is based on actresses complaint.
No evidence
Though he alleged that they were blackmailed he failed to establish his claim. He couldn't mention the place or how he was asked to hand over the money.
The letter
Later a letter emerges, allegedly written by Suni addressing the actor as Dileepetta. It was rather a friendly letter, and there were no threats or blackmailing.
Hiding Anoop's role
On investigation, it was found that the letter was written by Vishnu, an inmate of Suni, from jail. However, Dileep did not reveal who received the letter. Cops found that the letter was handed over to Dileep's younger brother Anoop.
Marathon questioning
It was after collecting all these evidence that police questioned the actor for 13 hours continuously. He cooperated with the officials and never questioned them even after so many hours. Further, he also remained adamant that he does not know Suni. Police are of the opinion that any innocent person would resist such marathon questioning.
Dileep cried
There are also rumours that towards the end of interrogation Dileep cried and begged the officials to save him.
