Kerala High Court says no to campus politics, strikes

Kerala High Court has made it clear that politics should stand out of the campuses and no one should organise strike inside college premises. The court also said that those holding acts like strike and protest should be banned from continuing studies. 

Clarifying that the principal and teachers have the authority to ban such students from continuing their education, the High Court bench said that college authorities could also seek police help to ensure peace in the campus. 

The division bench issued the interim order while considering a petition filed by MES College, Ponnani. The college management filed the petition following clashed between student outfits that disrupted classes.

"College campus is not a place for political stirs. It aims to impart education. College authorities have the legal right to expel those students who try to vitiate the atmosphere," the court said. 

Students vandalised one of the buildings on MES College, Ponnai, during a row over submission of nomination papers for college union election. The management suspended 12 students after the issue.
