More profit in store for rented buses under KSRTC

Synopsis

The trial run of electric buses and chartered Scania buses are more profitable. KSRTC has submitted a report to the government and the governing body asking to extend this project.

The results of the test run of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the city from June 18  has come as a silver lining for the cash-strapped Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to obtain the environmental-friendly buses on a wet-lease basis for the fleet.

The trial run of electric buses and chartered Scania buses are more profitable. KSRTC has submitted a report to the government and the governing body asking to extend this project.

The two-and-a-half days trial run of the state’s first 35-seater air-conditioned BEV that traversed 611 km in the capital fetched the KSRTC Rs. 38,406 from ticket collection. After the expenses of electricity (Rs. 3,810), Tax and Permit (Rs. 2,841), Salary of the Conductor (Rs. 17,640), the State undertaking had been able to save Rs. 14,115.

The chartered buses will be considered for the new routes. And no one will lose their jobs with this new project.

The daily travel is affected due to a shortage in the number of buses. By bringing in more rented buses, KSRTC will be able to meet this shortage and also will try routes of private buses.
