Kollam horror: 43 child abuse cases in 3 weeks

Synopsis

Majority of the cases bring the laxity and callousness on part of the probe team to light There have been allegations that the accused use political influence to get away with the crime

In a stat that will both shock and shame Kollam, it has been revealed that 43 cases of sexual abuse involving minors were reported from the district in the last three weeks.

From the infamous Kundara rape to the teen actress gang-rape incident, majority of these cases bring the laxity and callousness on part of the probe team to light.

Among the 43 child abuse cases registered, four were against boys. Cases have been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) in most of the incidents.

Apart from sexual abuse cases, six murder cases have also been reported from the district in the same period.

There have been allegations that the accused are using their political influence to get away with the crime. It appears that the investigation struggles to progress, irrespective of whether they are reported in villages or towns.
