Kerala to open civil service coaching centres in all districts

Taking a cue from the success of Kerala State Civil Service Academy (KSCSA), which was set up in 2005, the government is planning to ensure the facility to students across the state. The government plans to open coaching centres in all districts to help civil service aspirants prepare for the preliminary examination. 

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that of the 115 students undergoing training at the state-run centre at Thiruvananthapuram, 51 qualified. The Thiruvananthapuram centre, is at present, imparting coaching for main exam and interview while Kozhikode, Palakkad and Ponnani Centres are offering training for preliminary exams. 

The state-run centre has till this year sent more than 350 candidates from Kerala to the service. KSCSA provides free coaching for main exams to all candidates from the state who have cleared the preliminary examination. 

The KSCSA offers two-year coaching service for ₹15,000 while private academies charge between ₹45,000 to 65,000 for one-year coaching. 

Kerala government decided to start an academy to provide coaching to civil service aspirants after candidates from the state performed dismally in 2003 and 2004 and none of them qualified for the service. In the first year itself, academy produced good results with eight candidates qualifying for service in 2005. in 2006, as many as 11 candidates qualified and of them, six were among the six top 100 rankers including N Prasanth, fourth rank, R Vyasan, sixth rank and Anish Rajan who ranked seven. 

Those students who qualify preliminary exam will get free coaching for main exams besides being equipped to face interview. They also get other incentives including conveyance charge for attending interview besides free lodging at Kerala House, Delhi.
