Manju Warrier effect: Government panel to look into women's issues in films

Kerala Government has appointed a three-member committee, headed by a former Kerala High Court judge, to study various issues being faced by women working in cinema. The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Justice K Hema will head the committee, in which Popular actress of yesteryears Sharada and retired IAS officer K V Valsalakumari are members, a government press release said.

The committee will look into problems being faced by women in cinema and their working atmosphere, the release said.

The decision comes after a delegation of female artists and technicians working in film industry visited Chief Minister and made the request. The panel members will talk to all those working in the industry to ascertain the issues and will suggest remedial measures. The committee will submit a report based on their findings. 

Last month, some women professionals in the film industry had formed a body named Women's Collective in Cinema.
