A huge cache of explosive material, including detonators, gelatin sticks and fuse wire, was seized from a lorry in Malappuram early on Wednesday and two people were arrested in this connection with it.
A police team searched the vehicle, bearing a Karnataka registration number, at Mongam on specific instructions from district police chief Debesh Kumar Behera. The vehicle was on its way to Kozhikode in Kerala from Hassan in Karnataka.
The search revealed 10,000 detonators, 3,750 kgs of gelatin sticks and 213 rolls of fuse wire hidden under packs of chicken droppings used as manure, the police said.
Two drivers of the truck were arrested under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 286 of the IPC when they failed to produce documents supporting the consignment, the police said.
The two will soon be produced before a court, the police said, adding that an investigation was on.
