Cherthala-TVM stretch is national highway: Sudhakaran

Synopsis

G Sudhakaran said the state government has no confusion regarding the highway's status "The SC should now review its verdict. The PWD department has nothing to do on this" The minister was speaking in connection with the NHAI denotifying some highways in the state

Kerala public works department minister G Sudhakaran has stated the Kerala government is clear that the Cherthala-Thiruvananthapuram stretch is part of the national highway.

Sudhakaran said the state government has no confusion regarding the highway's status, and stressed that it is the Centre that needs to clarify the situation.

"The Supreme Court ordered the closure of bars and liquor shops on highways, and the state followed the order. However, the High Court has taken a contradictory stand, and the SC should now review its verdict. The PWD department has nothing to do on this," the minister said on Monday.

The Kerala High Court had recently ruled that ban on liquor outlets and beer parlours does not apply on the Cherthala-Thiruvananthapuram stretch since the road is no longer a national highway.
