Woman SI shoots rowdies, gets attacked by lethal weapons

A woman PSI shot at four rowdy sheeters and arrested them when they attacked and assaulted the police. A group of 4 rowdies were waiting to pounce for dacoity at Dabarabad in the outskirts of Kalaburgi on Sunday early morning. When the police team reached the spot the criminals attacked the police with lethal weapons. When they tried to attack PSI Akkamahadevi, she opened fire and shot the rowdies on their legs in self defence and arrested them.

A group of four were waiting to pounce for dacoity at Dabarabad in the outskirts of Kalaburgi on Sunday early morning. Acting on a tip off, a police team led by SI Akkamahadevi of Raghavendra Colony and CPI James Menezes git into action and waited to arrest them. When the police team reached the spot the criminals attacked the police with lethal weapons.

A constable was hurt. The culprits also broke the glass of police jeep. When they tried to attack PSI Akkamahadevi, she opened fire and shot the rowdies on their legs in self defence and arrested all of them. Akkamahadevi was earlier posted at Rattakal police station. She has sustained injuries to her arm.

The injured police personnel were admitted to Basaveshwara Hospital and the accused admitted at the district hospital. Alok Kumar, IGP of northern range has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the police team.

IGP Alok Kumar told the Times of India that Akkamahadevi's name would be recommended for an award. She had recently received the best PSI award in the district from DIG R K Datta.
