Truckers strike: Vegetable, petrol supply to be hit in the city, stock up

Suppliers of petroleum and LPG, and tourist taxi providers may join the strike on Monday. The daily wage earners, construction workers, are also suffering due to the strike that has left them jobless.

The indefinite strike of the truck owners that began on March 30 is likely to impact normal life from Monday, April 3 if taxi operators and petroleum suppliers decide to join in. According to a report, the supply of vegetables, construction materials like cement and sand has stopped due to the strike with over 22 lakh truckers off the road. 

The Deccan Chronicle reported that the APMCs, city market, and various construction sites looked deserted on Sunday, April 1. In KR Market, small vehicles have been used for supplying vegetables and other goods. However, the daily quoted a vegetable vendor as saying that the business has been reduced to 80 percent due to the strike. 

The daily wage earners, construction workers, are also suffering due to the strike that has left them jobless. The building contractor might have to release their workers because of lack of construction material if the strike continues. 

This situation will get worse if suppliers of petroleum and LPG, and the tourist taxi providers join the strike on Monday. The decision regarding this will be taken today or Monday if the central government fails to address the demand of the association, the Deccan Chronicle quoted a union member as saying.
