Police security to authors, actor Chethan requests for protection

The police have deputed security to prominent authors, their houses. Protection to Channaveera Kanavi, Dr Patila Puttappa and Dr Giraddi Govindaraj. Actor Chethan has written to the police commissioner to provide him security. He has been getting threatening calls, messages and on social media also.  

The police have deputed security personal to prominent authors’ houses like Channaveera Kanavi, Dr Patila Puttappa and Dr Giraddi Govindaraj reported Kannada Prabha.

In the wake of killing of Gauri Lankesh, the police have decided to provide protection to authors. Earlier when Dr Kalburgi was assassinated the police had provided protection to Dr Giraddi Govindaraj for around six months and the police personnel were posted at his house. Afterwards the security was withdrawn. Now after the killing of Gauri Lankesh, writers Kanavi, Dr Puttappa and Giraddi have been provided with protection.

Meanwhile in Bengaluru, film actor Chethan has written to the police commissioner to provide him security as he has been getting threatening calls, messages and on the social media. He said he is in the forefront of progressive agitations and as the police commissioner had announced protection to progressive activists, he submitted an appeal for protection.

In Sirsi, a senior journalist Sacchidananda Hegde has filed a complaint with New Market Police Station and appealed for protection as he has been getting threat calls.
