No ban on liquor on New Year's Eve: High Court

The Karnataka High Court has ruled with regard to liquor consumption on the New Year's Eve and has stated that the supply of alcohol need not be banned on the day of celebration.

This decision has come after the police commissioner submitted an affidavit, taking complete responsibility for the safety during New Year celebrations.

The affidavit states that there will be women police personnel deployed, 19 DCPs, 49 ACPs, 422 PCIs, 1,000 Home Guards, 1,000 KSRP personnel, 205 police inspectors, and bomb diffusing squads will be present giving security to people celebrating the event. A total of 8000 policemen and women will be on duty.

The affidavit also speaks about special security in and around MG Road and Brigade Road. There will be tight security in these areas from 4 PM on December 31 to the wee hours of January 1, 2018. Movement of vehicles over flyover will be stopped after 11 PM. The police department also has arranged for additional sources of light along the streets busy with celebrations. CCTVs will be installed in sensitive places.
