When mothers are usually blinded by their love for their sons and sometimes their wrong doings, here's a mother who deposed against her own son. The act ultimately helped her daughter-in-law in getting a divorce! A city family court in Bengaluru has directed Devanand Shankarappa Kashappanavar to pay Rs 4 crore as permanent alimony to his wife in 60 days since the judgement. Devanand is a son of former Karnataka minister, the late SR Kashappanavar.
It is reported that Devanand's wife had petitioned the court seeking a divorce from her husband in 2015 and also Rs 4.85 crore as alimony. Devanand is the petitioner's maternal uncle. The petitioner had reportedly told the court that she married Devanand on May 22, 2011 much against her wishes while she was pursuing a BBA degree.
But her husband's attitude changed after a few days into the marriage. When she questioned him about it, Devanand had reportedly told her that he had married her to satisfy his late father's wishes, reports The Times of India. In the meantime, his 'other' marriage was revealed, something that his family was dead against. This created a rift between them and she filed for a divorce.
The court took notice of the fact that the couple were living separately since February 12, 2012 and there was no co-habitation between them from that day. Besides, Devanand's mother, who is also the petitioner's grandmother, had submitted before the court that her son had married another woman and they also have a child, even when he was already married to the petitioner.
She had also told the court that her son owned vast tracts of land, runs a quarrying business, earns huge amount of money and also has a Mercedez Benz, reports The Times of India. Based on these observations, the court granted aa divorce to the petitioner and also directed Devanand to pay Rs 4 crore as permanent alimony to the petitioner.
