
The Belagavi Zilla Panchayat celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a unique way this year. The ZP identified 2082 houses that did not have toilets and got it constructed but invited the women from those houses and their brothers and made the women tie the Rakhee and brothers to hand over the keys to the toilets. Needless to say it was much appreciated by the villagers, reported Kannada Prabha.
The toilets were constructed under the Swachcha Bharath Mission. But the ZP hit upon the idea of making it a gift for women for Raksha Bandhan. ZP CEO Ramachandran explained this at a press meet on Monday and siad this novel scheme was appreciated whole hearetdely by the public. Among the 506 villages in the district 80 per cent of the villages implemented this scheme.
This scheme was first implemented in Amethi in north India and in the State, Belagavi adapted the same for the first time, he said.
