With the Election Commission indicating to hold the Assembly elections in the first week of May, education department officials are on their toes as the polls may coincide with the major examinations, even the Common Entrance Test (CET). If the dates of polls are decided, then in all possibilities, the CET exams may be advanced by a week.
The CET exams are usually held in the first week of May every year. However, with the upcoming Assembly elections, the exams may be conducted in the third week of April, reports The New Indian Express. CET exams are conducted to seek admission to undergraduate professional courses.
However, there would be no change in the PU and SSLC exams. These exams will be held as per the schedule. In fact, the dates of these exams would be announced on November 15, reports the New Indian Express.
In fact, the Education department officials are wary about holding polls. For, teachers would be deployed for the poll duty and it would affect the smooth conduct of the examination.
As the EC wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary on probabilities of holding the election on May 2, the education department officials held a meeting to finalise on the exam dates for SSLC and PU exams.
"The draft timetable for both the exams is almost ready, and the same will be announced on November 15. We have already written to the Election Commission about the exam schedule to avoid confusion," said Tanveer Sait, minister for primary and secondary education. On rumours that whether the SSLC and PU exam schedules would be merged, the minister ruled out any such possibility.
Principal Secretary to Education Department, Shalini Rajaneesh told Bangalore Mirror that the government has not yet decided on the examination dates for SSLC and PUC.
