
Hundreds of houses were flooded following heavy downpour on Thursday night in Chikkaballapura, Bellary and other regions in the State. In Raichur over 10 villages have lost contact with the main road and have become islands, reported Kannada Prabha.
Chikkaballapura received 84 mm rain in one and half hours. The three check dams constructed near Ajjavara village were washed away. The Jatawara tank which had dried up 15 years ago is over flowing making the farmers very happy. Around 200 houses in the slum next to the Silk Cocoon Market at Chikkaballapura was flooded all of a sudden at night and the people were left on the streets. In Vijayapur, Muddebihala taluk, Aremurala village rains washed away onions freshly harvested causing a loss of Rs 2.5 lakh to the farmers.
In Ramadurga, Belagavi district bus stand and houses in low lying areas are inundated. In Bellary continuous rain for four hours put normal life out of gear. A total of 133 houses were destroyed. In Uttara Kannada district, heavy downpour for three hours with thunder and lightning was reported but no casualties have been reported.
Basava Sagara dam gates are open releasing 70,000 cusecs water and high alert has been sounded. In Chamarajanagara Haleyuru village in Malemahadeshwara Hill, cattle were caught in the flood but were rescued. However, one calf was washed away.
