  • Deputy Commissioner's office of Chikkaballapura district denotified 70 acres of lake land.
  • The DC's office wanted to put up its office structure and also accommodate police housing quarters.
  • Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Karnataka Lake Development Authority asked the district administration not to build any structure as it is lake land.
  • Failed to get NOC from KSPCB and KLDA, the DC's was forced to transfer the land to horticulture department for the botanical park.
  • Now the present DC want to build medical college hospital on 22 acres of the same 70 acres.

In a case of fence eating the crop, the Chikkaballapur deputy commissioner office has denotified 70 acres of wetland out of which 22 acres are now allotted to build government hospital.

Activist say, in 2009, the 70 acres land of Gopalakrishna Amani kere was denotified. The lake measures 711 acres lake has dried up as Chikkaballapura is drought area. Since there is no permanet water stagnation here government wanted to have the DC’s office there. But the report from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board  (KSPCB) and Karnataka Lake Development Authority (KLDA)  said that the land is identified as 'wetland', and government cannot build any structure.

The report from KSPCB and KLDA was like a tight slap to Deputy Commissioner office which was later forced to transfer to the land to horticulture department to develop the 70 acres of the botanical park.

Now, with the government proposal to have seven medical college and hospital in State as per 2016 budget, Chikkaballapura district was one among the district chosen for the medical college and hospitalproject. Ironically the present Deputy Commissioner ordered to allot of 22 acres of land for the government medical college hospital in the same denotified land.

The administration has gone mad in Chikkaballapur. Earlier the Deputy Commissioner who was in administration in 2008 and 2009 had taken wetland for deputy commissioner office and also police housing quarters since the KSPCB and KLDA did not give any no objection certificate and the project was stalled.
DC's office was built in 10 acres area in another place, said Narayan, State Committee Member  Janadhikara Sangharsha Parishat

"Since the denotified land of 70 acres could not be used put up the structure in lake land, the land was given for the botanical garden purpose, but now the present administration has ordered to make government hospital in the 22 acres of the denotified land last year. Forget private builders, here the government itself had encroached the lake land. We raised serious objection had approached the Lokayukta, and the case is coming up for hearing on June 29,"  he said.
