College lecturers to get pay hike, 7th Pay Commission implemented

The Central government has extended the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission to State University and aided college lecturers. With this implementation, a total of 7.58 lakh professors, assistant professors and other teaching staff will be benefited, said Prakash Jawdekar, Union Minister for Human Resources, reports Kannada Prabha.

The Central government on Wednesday approved the wage revision to university and college teaching staff in view of implementation of 7th Pay Commission. With this 106 universities and UGC aided colleges, 329 aided universities, 12,912 government and private aided college lecturers will be benefited.

The wage revision also applies to 119 technological institutions like IIT, IIMC, IIM, IIT and NITIE. The wage revision will be implemented retrospectively from Jan 1, 2016. The Central government will incur an annual expenditure of Rs 9,800 crore because of this. The hike in wages of lecturers of universities and colleges will be from Rs 10,400 to Rs 49,800. For the aided institutions, the State government has to give its consent, after which it will be implemented. The additional burden on states as a result of 7th Pay Commission implementation will be absorbed by the Central government. The wage revision is expected to attract talented to the education field.
