CM chooses to pay contractors but not poor Pourakarmikas? asks MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Synopsis

Bengaluru has got the crores worth machines to clean the roads of the city The contract pourakarmikas have reported to work but have been turned away by the contractors MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has strongly condemned this #BuilderContractorSarkara attitude through his tweets

Bengaluru has got the crores worth machines to clean the roads of the city. The Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has spent Rs 9.60 crore to purchase eight sweeping machines. Interesting that BBMP has crores to be paid for these machines but no money to pay the pourakarmikas who do the same job.

The contract pourakarmikas have reported to work but have been turned away by the contractors. In fact, they have been threatened with dismissal and adverse action. Beyond the charade of non-clearance of bills and service tax notices, the reason motivating the contractors is the fear of their empire crumbling. For 25 years, a handful of contractors have swindled public money in the name of garbage collection.

The report found that BBMP officials paid the entire amount of Rs 116 crore to contractors instead of holding back the provident fund and insurance meant for contract employees, thus cheating the workers while contractors pocketed the amount.

MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has strongly condemned this #BuilderContractorSarkara attitude through his tweets

He further stated that “This is the height of callousness and negligence where Chief Minister (who claims to be pro poor) chooses to pay the contractors and not pay the poor Pourakarmikas. I support Pourakarmikas in their struggle and will fight with them against this nexus.”
