The Chhattisgarh police have arrested 34-year-old Abhay Devdas Nayak for allegedly having role in the Maoist overground network. He was captured from the immigration counter in Delhi on June 1.  lookout notices was issued on Nayak.

Nayak had visited 15 countries with active rebel elements and was also a part of the Co-ordination Committee of Maoist Party and Organisations in South Asia.

The Chhattisgarh police have been tracking Nayak for past two years and have gone abroad in search of him. IG Vivekanand Sinha said that Nayak used modern technology to keep his identity a secret and actively did propaganda for the party via online pieces. they alleged that  he played a critical role in building an urban Maoist network.

A report put together by the police says Nayak attended school in Bengaluru before completing BBA between 2002 and 2005 from Bangalore University. He holds Masters degree in Psychology from Annamalai University through distance learning. He also did courses on stock trading, website design, HTML and Digital Marketing. The police said he was writing for a website called indiamicrofinance.com on technology, business and finance, and also worked in some financial institutions in Bangalore “to allegedly hide his illegal activities”.

On Tuesday, Nayak spoke briefly to the press saying he didn’t have any connections with the Maoists. The police got hold of Nayak’s laptop and pen drives and also recovered emails that have been sent to Maoist leaders.
