Sowmya Reddy, daughter of former minister and veteran Congress leader has won the Jayanagar Assembly elections. She defeated BJP's Prahlad Babu by nearly 3,000 votes.

Sowmya Reddy secured 54,448 whereas BJP's Prahlad Babu secure 51,171. Another leader from AAP Ravi Krishna Reddy managed to secure only 1,861 votes. Jayanagar has been the stronghold of BJP for quite a long time now. The election to Jayanagar Constituency was postponed after the death of BJP candidate BN Vijay Kumar.

BJP then gave the ticket to his brother Prahlad Babu. This had angered some of the BJP corporators who were aspirants for the ticket from BJP. BJP corporator from Kaval Bhairasandra Ward Nagaraju had quit BJP and joined Congress.

This is the first election for Sowmya Reddy and it can be noted that apart from her father Ramalinga Reddy, no other prominent leaders had campaigned for her in Jayanagar.
