Presented as dark workplace humor amidst rising AI layoff fears, the button hypothetically leaks company code, deletes databases, and notifies his lawyer with one click, sparking a mix of amusement and concern online.

A software programmer from Bengaluru has gained notoriety online after showcasing an unusual AI-powered "I GOT FIRED" button that, according to him, could cause havoc within an organization with a single click. At a time when discussions about layoffs and job uncertainty are becoming more prevalent in the tech sector, the concept was presented as a joke laced with dark workplace humour.

Social media users swiftly responded to the message, with some finding it amusing and others cautioning about potential legal issues. Software engineer Pankaj, who goes by @the2ndfloorguy on X (formerly Twitter), shared a video and photos of the device attached to his laptop.

Explaining the idea behind it, he wrote, “AI layoffs are getting out of hands so I built “I GOT FIRED" button. One click, and it makes entire company codebase public, pushes .env secrets to public repo, drops staging db and finally notifies my lawyer I hope I never need it but it’s ready."

The images shared with the post showed a small multi-button device connected beside his laptop keyboard. On the laptop screen, different labels could be seen, including “Gaslight Them," “Decode Corporate BS," and a red-highlighted option that read “I GOT FIRED." A pop-up notice with the message "[env secrets committed and pushed to public repo" was displayed in one image.
