A tragic incident in Hirebidanur village of Gauribidanur taluk has triggered public outrage after a one-and-a-half-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a water-filled pit at an under-construction government building.
The construction site, located behind the Government First Grade College, had a large pit excavated for an elevator shaft. Recent rains had caused the pit to fill with water. The toddler, who was playing near the site, accidentally slipped and fell into the water-filled pit, resulting in her death.
The victim, identified as Pallavi, was the daughter of Rajpal and Shwetha, residents of Srirampura in Bengaluru. The couple had been working as construction labourers at the same site. The tragedy has left the family shattered, with emotional scenes witnessed outside the mortuary at Gauribidanur Public Hospital.
The incident has sparked widespread anger among local residents, who are demanding immediate compensation for the grieving family. Many have also called for strict action against the contractor for alleged negligence and failure to implement adequate safety measures at the construction site.
Residents and activists are urging authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and hold accountable those responsible for supervising the project. The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over safety standards at construction sites, particularly in areas accessible to workers' families and children.
