Karnataka: Love Marriage Row Triggers Violent Clash Between Families in Chitradurga

A major clash between two families in Bharamasagara village of Chitradurga district has created tension in the area after a dispute over a love marriage spiralled out of control. What began as an attempt to resolve differences through a peace meeting quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving several people injured. The incident has raised concerns about increasing family disputes over marriages and has prompted the police to step in to maintain law and order in the village.

Couple at the Centre of the Dispute

The conflict revolves around Bhavana, a resident of Bharamasagara village in Chitradurga taluk, and Teertheshwara Naik from Bevinahalli. The two are related, with Bhavana being Teertheshwara’s aunt’s daughter. Despite opposition from their families, they went ahead and registered their marriage on February 8. Bhavana’s parents were strongly against the union, leading to ongoing tension between the two families since the wedding.

Allegations Add to Tension

The situation became more complicated following allegations of religious conversion levelled against Teertheshwara Naik. These claims further strained relations between the families and contributed to the escalating conflict.

Assault During Peace Talks

In an effort to resolve the dispute, a meeting was arranged between the families. However, instead of reaching a compromise, the discussion turned into a heated argument and then into a physical clash. During the incident, Bhavana’s grand-uncle, Mallesh Naik, along with a few others, was allegedly assaulted. Mallesh Naik and two others are currently receiving treatment at the Chitradurga District Hospital.

Both Sides Trade Allegations

Teertheshwara Naik and his family have also alleged that they were attacked during the clash. With both sides accusing each other, the case has taken a serious turn. A video purportedly showing Teertheshwara Naik assaulting someone has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread discussion. Reports suggesting that the incident occurred in the presence of police have added to the controversy.

Police Step In to Restore Order

Police from Bharamasagara station rushed to the spot upon receiving information and brought the situation under control. Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway and that legal action will be taken against those found responsible. The village remains tense, with additional police personnel deployed to prevent further incidents. Officials are also engaging with both families to defuse the situation and restore peace.
