Arindam Bhattacharya played a crucial part in ATK Mohun Bagan's impressive last season. However, he would now be donning the red-golden jersey this season with arch-rival SC East Bengal.

Indian goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya has created headlines after signing a one-year deal with Indian football giant SC East Bengal. Having served arch-rival ATK Mohun Bagan last season with a fruitful stint in the Indian Super League, he has now decided to don the red-golden shirt for this season.

He also won the Golden Glove last season, surpassing Mumbai City's Amrinder Singh. He had registered ten clean sheets while he had come up with 59 saves during the season.

"I am glad to be here. I can't wait for the season to start. I want to win as many games as possible for SC East Bengal and keep as many clean sheets as possible. I will also try and keep the dressing room very tight and together. That's how you win trophies, and that's what I will try and do in this team," he said after penning the deal.

"At home, my father and my grandfather are East Bengal supporters. I have never played for East Bengal in my entire career spanning 16 years. So, when the opportunity came along this time, I grabbed it with both hands," he added.

He also added, "I was getting a lot of messages, saying not to leave Kolkata. That is what inspired me a lot and was another reason for me to join this club. We are all aware of the rich legacy of this club, and I will keep working hard to help in the red-gold flag flying high."

The 31-year-old has had a prosperous career, having played for eight clubs in the country, while SCEB would be his ninth. He has made 140 club appearances, while this would be his sixth stint in the ISL.
