West Bengal: Jhargram chief medical officer succumbs to COVID-19 infection

Even as the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing at an alarming rate in Jangalmahal, Subodh Mandal, the chief medical officer of health succumbed to COVID-19 infection on Wednesday (September 9). 


The number of COVID-19 patients is increasing in Jangalmahal. Subodh Mandal, a Chief-Health Officer from Jhargram, died due to COVID-19 at a hospital in Kolkata. Officials in the West Midnapore District Health Department got panicked after this incident.

According to reports, Subodh Mandal, a resident of Hanskhali in Nadia, was the CMOH (Chief Medical Officer of Health) of Jhargram. The fifty-six-year-old veteran physician has treated many COVID patients. A few days ago, he himself was infected with COVID-19. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

The number of COVID cases is increasing day by day in West Midnapore. In the last two weeks, 2,056 people have been infected. Ghatal and Daspur has the highest number of COVID cases. The number of migrant workers was the highest in those two places in the district. The district health department estimates that the number of COVID cases has increased due to the presence of migrant workers in those places.

According to the West Midnapore District Health Department, the number of COVID cases has increased in West Midnapore in the last two months. The number of victims per week was restricted to 200. But in the last few days, the number of victims has gone up to 1,000. In August, 43 people have died due to COVID-19 in West Midnapore.
