The victims were identified as pilgrims returning from Adi Kailasa, as stated by Superintendent of Police, Pithoragarh, Lokeshwar Singh. The treacherous combination of darkness and challenging terrain likely contributed to the accident.

Authorities have planned to initiate a search and rescue operation to recover the bodies. However, due to the arrival of nightfall, the operation had to be suspended temporarily and is scheduled to resume in the morning.
Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Lokeshwar Singh provided details about the incident, highlighting that it unfolded on the Dharchula-Lipulekh road. The victims came from various locations, with two originating from Bengaluru and others from Telangana and Uttarakhand.
