Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government after 14 children, undergoing blood transfusions in a Uttar Pradesh hospital, tested positive for serious infections like Hepatitis B, C, and HIV. Kharge expressed his outrage, asserting that the innocent children were bearing the consequences of the BJP's unforgivable negligence.
Kharge took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns, stating, "The double-engine government has made our health system doubly sick. In a government hospital in Kanpur, UP, infected blood was given to 14 children suffering from thalassemia, due to which these children contracted serious diseases like HIV AIDS and Hepatitis B, C. This serious negligence is shameful."
Additionally, Kharge questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent call for 10 pledges during the Dussehra festivities, highlighting the lack of accountability within BJP governments. He asked, "Yesterday Modi ji was teaching us big things about taking 10 resolutions, has he ever fixed even an iota of accountability for his BJP governments?"
On Monday, 14 children, receiving blood transfusions at the government-run Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Kanpur, were diagnosed with Hepatitis and HIV infections. These children, who were already dealing with Thalassemia, now face a heightened health risk due to the contaminated blood transfusions.
The affected children, ranging from 6 to 16 years old, are among the 180 Thalassemia patients receiving blood transfusions at the facility. Among the infected, seven tested positive for Hepatitis B, five for Hepatitis C, and two for HIV. These children hail from various regions within the state, including Kanpur City, Dehat, Farrukhabad, Auraiya, Etawah, and Kannauj.
