Reaffirming the government's commitment to secularism and social justice, Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Saturday asserted new administration functions beyond the lines of caste and religion, adding that public support is rooted entirely in the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay. The Minister made these remarks after paying floral tributes to the statue of Emperor Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar on his 1351st Sathaya Festival at Othakadai in Trichy.

Responding to recent criticism surrounding the appointment of a Brahmin minister, Ramesh clarified that the Chief Minister does not distribute opportunities or cabinet portfolios based on caste considerations. "Deputy Speaker Ravi Shankar nor I received votes based on caste identity, but because of the leadership of the Chief Minister. People view the Chief Minister as a member of their own family, transcending caste and religious barriers. The same perception extends to all party candidates and ministers," Ramesh said.

He further emphasised that the ruling party strictly adheres to the ideologies of Periyar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. "Our government stands firmly for secularism and social justice. We do not believe in discrimination based on caste, religion, language, or gender. Individuals should be judged solely by their intention to serve society," he added.

Honouring Ancient Legacies

Highlighting the legacy of Emperor Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar, the HR&CE Minister described him as a great ruler who remains a major inspiration. He noted that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay had adopted the 'Vaagai' flower--traditionally carried by the emperor as a symbol of assured victory--into his party flag, reflecting a determination to follow the ancient ruler's legacy.

Temple Administration Reforms Underway

Turning to temple administration, the Minister outlined key policy measures aimed at transparency and public convenience. He warned that temples must not become centres of corruption or abuse of authority, promising personal "micro-management" to clean up departmental irregularities. "From senior officials to lower-level staff, all employees must function honestly. We are planning advanced time management and crowd management systems to significantly reduce waiting times, ensuring devotees can have a peaceful darshan," Ramesh stated.

Review of Temple Land Disputes

He also confirmed that a comprehensive review of temple lands and encroachments is underway to bring those assets into proper public use. Addressing long-standing land ownership disputes in Srirangam and Thiruvanaikaval, Ramesh disclosed that a high-level review meeting had been scheduled at the District Collector's office later in the evening to decide on the next steps after consulting relevant stakeholders.

The event saw participation from several high-profile dignitaries, including Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board Chairman Ku. Pa. Krishnan, Deputy Speaker Ravi Shankar, Thiruverumbur MLA Navalpattu Viji, Manapparai MLA Kathiravan, Musiri MLA Vignesh, Trichy District Collector Saravanan, and Corporation Commissioner Madhubalan. Multiple TVK party members, including Chiranjeevi, Raja, and Kudamurutti Karikalan, were also present to pay their respects.
