Since May 4, the army is conducting door-to-door search -a practice that stopped in the late 1990s - but now has been reintroduced. Security forces comprising army, police and CRPF personnel have conducted searches in a dozen village in Shopian district as part of the 'Operation Clean Up.' Helicopters and drones also are assisting in the operation.

The operation, which was launched after a spate of militant attacks in the region, is perhaps the biggest in more than a decade in the troubled Kashmir Valley, an army official on the condition of anonymity told PTI.
