New Delhi: Flags at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament fly at half-mast to condole the demise of Union Minister and LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan.

As a mark of respect to Cabinet minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who passed away on Thursday (October 8), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on Friday (October 9) in Delhi and capitals of all states and UTs where it is regularly flown, and also on the day of the funeral at the place where the funeral will take place.

According to MHA, it has also been decided that State Funeral will be accorded to Pawan. Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder Ram Vilas Paswan passed away at the age of 74 on Wednesday.

His son Chirag Paswan broke the news on his Twitter handle. Paswan recently underwent heart surgery in Delhi. He has served as the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the central government.

Mortal remains of Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan are being taken to his residence from AIIMS.

Meanwhile, the demise of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan is set to become an emotive issue in the Bihar assembly polls with his son Chirag seeking to inherit the mantle in an election where he has declared chief minister Nitish Kumar as his number one target for alleged misrule and broken promises.

Paswan's departure increases the possibility of fellow Dusadhs rallying around his son Chirag as a mark of tribute to the leader who remained their mascot for decades. Dusadhs, a politically aware Dalit sub-caste, known to vote aggressively, were the main reason behind the political prominence the Union minister enjoyed.
